Underwater Archaeology Scientific Diver Program - Ocean Fieldwork

Following a successful training program in the classroom and pool exercises, the UC Davis 2019 Scientific Diver students were challenged to utilize their new underwater archaeology skills by doing actual fieldwork in the ocean.  Students demonstrated their ability to define their own search patterns, photograph newly discovered artifacts, and determined positional data for each.  These data were incorporated into the California State Parks’ inventory of maritime cultural heritage for use in defining doghole ports and documenting examples along the Redwood Coast of Sonoma and Mendocino Counties.
