Fisk Mill Anchor, Rediscovered
In 2017, SCHUNRS participated in a multidisciplinary, multi-agency project to locate and document the physical remains of doghole ports located along the Sonoma Coast, both on land and the sea floor. Hearing about the project, a county resident contacted the team requesting information about an anchor that he and other local divers had recovered from Fisk Mill Cove in the late 1970s. We followed up on the lead and discovered that the anchor was stored at Salt Point State Park. The anchor represents a “long shank” Roger foldable anchor, most likely from a fishing vessel. The question now is what will happen to the anchor now that it has been rediscovered. We hope to assist Parks with planning next steps.
